Reminiscing..
Author: GLadys Erhardt
I’m in the base today. I went here with hubby. He drops me off here at the community center and I’m using one of their PC. I had a lot of reminisces when I was in McDo eating my bfast. I went there and spent an hour and a half.
Both of my parents weren’t born with a ‘golden spoon’, though they’re not considered to be the poorest but if they don’t till our farm, we have nothing to eat. My brother started working in our farm as early as 8 or 9 years old. And me, I learned to cook rice and some simple viands when I was 6. But we were happy, in fact I remember that during weekends we always go to town (we live in the province) to buy groceries, eat and shop.
A simple hotdog packs would always give me and my bro a huge smile. We both love hotdogs. Then for some reason we transferred in GenSan. It was a hard life for us on our first years in GenSan but my parents are very hardworking persons. After 5 years of living in GenSan, they were able to establish a better life for the family. Though we were tight in our budget, bro and I never stopped going to school.
So that was it, I learned how to be responsible with my actions when I first knew what earth was. Hard life taught me how to be strong and how to succeed. You know, I was growing up thinking that failure is not an option for me, this was my motivation. I stumbled of course but I managed to get back and go on. I had high hopes and everyday in my life, I was working on getting my goal. I can say that I had a promising career when I left Davao. I went here in the States because I fall in love. My husband is a very wonderful person. We have a lot of things in common. He’s a Filipino yet Americanized man. He pretty much grew up in here but I admire how he honored and paid respect to his roots. We blended right away and so I had no (as in zero) problem with my adjustment. I owe that to hubby.
Sitting at McDo made me realize and reminisce my life’s journey. You know, everything is possible. It was a realization knowing the sacrifices both my parents and I went through..I’d say, I am having a good life now. It’s not because I’m here in the States (kind a money grows on trees thinking) but because I do believe that wherever you are, as long as you have the drive to get your goal..you will succeed. I left a good career when I was in the Philippines, I was taking my Masters and even if I chose not to finish it (I lacked one exam to get the degree, I need to decide whether to get it or get here in the States) I got me a wonderful husband that is very supportive in my career. I know I have a vibrant career ahead of me and we are both planning to continue my degree.
Also, I am able to support my family (parents) without hurting our (I and hubby’s) budget. Though I’m not working full time right now, the internet has opened this huge opportunity that made me earned some extra. I’m really thankful for the blessings, I may not be perfect but I do believe in good and bad karma and the sayings that ‘what comes around goes around’.
I hope I inspired your day with my life story. Thanks for reading and have a good day ![]()

We’re going to watch Sun Bowl tomorrow
Author: GLadys Erhardt
We’re going to watch a sun bowl tomorrow and I am HELLA excited :). Yep, I’ve been crazy with football since the first 2007 month it kicked off. I’m a fan of New England, USC, West Virginia and LSU. I used to like Dallas because of Romo but then I fell inlove with Tom Brady, he knows how to play his game. Plus he has good teammates..that’s why they’re number 1 :).
And right now, my ultimate football dream is to watch the Patriots game live in the stadium. I want to watch NBA too hence my brother is really begging me to watch any NBA games. I told him I will but just give me time, I and hubby are planning to watch one in CA.
So anyway, we were shopping for my winter clothes this past few weeks. Hubby was telling me to wear 3 layers of clothes so I don’t get sick from the weather. We’ll be in an open stadium tomorrow and I just checked the weather, the highest would be 58F and 25F as the lowest, yikes…that is cold.
I’m going to take an off again from blogging tomorrow and I have my digi-baby with me so I can share pics with you.
A day before Thanksgiving
Author: GLadys Erhardt
I was OVERLY busy today. I cleaned our home and prepared the dining table for tomorrow’s Thanksgiving (di man diay lalim ning maminyo uy..pastilan). Thanksgiving is a big event here in the States. Our plan for tomorrow is to celebrate Thanksgiving here in our home and watch movies and football. There is not much to do since most of the establishments are closed.float right side =
Anyway, the cleaning and cooking (for today’s dinner) knocked me off. I fell asleep while resting in our living room when Carlo arrived from work (around 4pm). He woke me up as we have plans to go out and watch “Beuwolf”. And yeah we watched Beuwolf, the movie was just fine. I like Angelina Jolie’s line “Are you the one they called Beuwolf?”. We watched this movie in our new theater here in town -the “Aviator”. Our town is progressing little by little, the next building the biz people are building is a big mall. We’re happy to hear this news, this county will have more life now.
On the other hand, I want to greet everyone a “Happy Thanksgiving”. I and my fam are grateful for all the blessings throughout the year. Thanks also for being a part of me, for visiting my ‘virtual’ home.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Martin family in Davao, I wish you to have more blessings and prosperous business in the next hundreds of years.
My not so busy day

I never stayed home today. I went to the base with Carlo around 9 30am because I was OVERLY bored here in the house. He drop me off in the gym and I had a 2 hour of gym session. Man, that feels good. It’s been over a week now since I went to the gym (been busy with blog ads) that’s why I decided to go with him today.
After 2 hours, he picked me up and we went to BX (Basic Exchange) to have lunch and after lunch he left again to go back to his office. I brought my laptop so I was able to check my mail and post some ads for 3 hours. Had some chit chatting with Jackie on that time too. When my baby’s battery went dead, that was my signal to go shopping. I shop new kitchen utensils (new set of kitchen wares and some decors) for this coming Thanksgiving and for Christmas. When I was in the counter and tried paying, I don’t know what happened but the machine would not accept my debit card and I forgot to ask the credit card from hubby. I was a little embarrassed but what can I do. So I went to the ATM machine and try to withdraw some cash. I thought it would give me an error but to my surprise it did not. Haay buhay!!
Anyway, to make the long story short..I paid it with cash. The ways here in the States is different than what I had in the Philippines. In the Phils, I also have debit cards but I don’t usually use it to pay for shopping..I’m used to pay everything in cash. But when I got here in the States, almost everything is paid in debit or credit cards. Well, what I experienced was a little downside of using a card..and having a cash will always be a good option for paying, cash eh :).
When we got home, both him and I are starving so I quickly cooked him a soup (he loves soup)..a shrimp sinigang soup (filipino dish) with American veges..hehe. He liked it though..and after I broiled some marinated pork chops.
I never cooked when I was single, or if I do..that’s really the most simple filipino meal. I just learned everything about the kitchen when I got married and yeah, I did tried burning my arm, cut my finger, burned some breads, overcooked some steak..but the key is “try it again”. Now, I’m getting a hang of it and my husband would always complain if I’ll tell him “we’ll have pizza from pizza hut tonight”, he wants my cooking, no matter how simple it is.
Was it love? Hahaha..this made me smile..big time.
